The Position
The Senior Manager of Maintenance Excellence & Reliability is accountable for advancing maintenance excellence across all HGT Terminals globally, serving as the subject matter expert in reliability engineering within the Global E&AM team and acting as the focal point for the Reliability Community throughout all terminals.
This role is essential in supporting operational terminals to optimise and standardise maintenance and work management processes and procedures, thereby achieving the highest possible availability of terminal equipment. A primary responsibility includes the continuous development and analysis of intelligence regarding the utilisation, behaviour, and performance of terminal equipment, leveraging best practices and effective use of EAM systems within HGT.
The Senior Manager of Maintenance Excellence & Reliability contributes to operational excellence by providing expertise in maintenance maturity progression and reliability, thereby enabling informed decision-making within the organization. This position also contributes to identifying technical risks and improvement opportunities across global terminal operations.
Success in this position demands a structured, results-driven approach, strong motivational skills, unwavering attention to quality, and an ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Reporting to the Global Director of Engineering, the role is based in Rotterdam and requires frequent international travel to support HGT Terminals worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- To enhance and promote best practices in maintenance and reliability engineering, it is essential to ensure that accurate and up-to-date knowledge is accessible to all members of the Terminals’ maintenance teams. This approach fosters a culture of continuous improvement and supports operational excellence across all facilities.
- Working collaboratively with other Engineering & Asset Management (E&AM) disciplines and Terminal staff is critical for maintaining the reliability and availability of terminal infrastructure, cranes and equipment.
- Ensures that EAM/CMMS systems are configured, suitable and available containing the right level of master data quality that enables data driven decision making and effective work management. This role will act as Global Process Owner (GPO) for HGT assets and systems worldwide.
- Ensures that optimum requirements for inspection and maintenance of the Terminal’s equipment and infrastructure are systematically integrated into the HGT global maintenance strategy and work programs. This alignment ensures that all activities support the broader asset management policy and contribute to the long-term sustainability of terminal assets.
- Promotes an ongoing review process for policies, procedures, and guidelines related to maintenance excellence and equipment reliability management is developed, implemented, and supported. This process is vital for sustaining the safe operation of all terminal assets and for ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Implement and facilitate the application of a robust process for the assessment of asset management maturity for all Terminals worldwide. Ensuring that the assessment results feed into the HGT process for strategic and tactical asset management planning. This is necessary to ensure that all Terminal progress toward a strategic asset management culture.
- Conduct internal and external liaison activities, including engagement with benchmark companies, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and the Environment Agency. These efforts help ensure that HGT’s maintenance policies and procedures remain aligned with industry best practices in reliability engineering and maintenance work management.
- Ensure that the reliability skills and knowledge available within the Terminals are regularly measured and benchmarked. This continuous drive for learning is fundamental to maintaining high standards in maintenance and reliability engineering across all operations.
- Lead the Global AM maturity review and improvement process targeting ISO55000 accreditation across our portfolio of terminals.

Job Requirements
- Minimum University degree in related industry.
- Engineer level status (or local country equivalent).
- Membership of an appropriate reliability and or professional organization is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in reliability engineering and E&AM operations.
- At least 3-5 years of international experience.
- Experience in a strong service oriented, “stakeholder-management” required environment.
- Knowledge & Experience of ISO55000 requirements.
- Extensive reliability engineering project management experience and exposure to project controls.
- Strong analytical skills, applicable to Terminal assets and maintenance work processes.
- Highly disciplined, following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation.
- Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment, in regard to employees, local authorities and other stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence.
- Excellent written English and verbal communication.
