The position

HGT is seeking a Compliance Trainee to join the Compliance & Sustainability Department for a duration of 6 months. The Trainee supports the Compliance, Corporate Governance and Risk Management activities. The role focuses on learning, coordination, and operational assistance, ensuring smooth execution of day‑to‑day activities while gaining exposure to core governance, compliance and risk processes. The Trainee works closely with the Corporate Secretary, Head of Compliance & ESG and contributes to ongoing initiatives across the group.

This role is located in Rotterdam, at HGT’s headquarters.



Key Responsibilities

1. Compliance Support

  • Support day‑to‑day operational and administrative tasks within the Compliance function.
  • Maintain and update compliance tools, the intranet portal, and standard documentation.
  • Assist in preparing materials and perform training and awareness initiatives.
  • Help with structured third‑party management processes under close guidance, including documentation handling and progress tracking.
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation steps of the Group Compliance Management System to support reporting to management.
  • Support early‑stage and administrative tasks related to Sanctions and Export Compliance and progressively develop expertise as knowledge grows; prior exposure is considered an advantage.

2. Corporate Governance Support

  • Maintain and archive statutory records, governance documentation, and corporate files.
  • Assist in preparing draft agendas, minutes, and resolutions for internal management meetings and Management Board meetings.
  • Support the organization of periodic internal management meetings, including preparation of materials and follow‑up actions.
  • Help coordinate corporate meetings and ensure proper documentation flow.
  • Act as a support resource for the Corporate Secretary to ensure continuity of governance processes.

3. Risk Management Support

  • Assist in gathering data for risk assessments and updating the risk register; prior exposure to Risk Management is a plus.
  • Support monitoring of risk mitigation measures and follow‑up actions.
  • Help prepare presentations and reports for internal management and the Management Board.

4. General Operational Support

  • Collaborate with internal teams and HQ functions to support compliance, governance, ESG, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects across all functional areas.
  • Support integration activities related to newly acquired terminals.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned by the Corporate Secretary, Head of Compliance & ESG.



Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Prior experience in Compliance, Risk Management or Corporate Secretary is an asset, ideally 8–12 months of relevant experience.
  • Languages: English is a must. Additional languages such as Dutch, French, German or Spanish are a strong plus.
  • Interest in developing expertise in new areas.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively across functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with intranet tools or reporting systems is a plus.
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn in a dynamic environment.
