The position

Hanseatic Global Terminals is seeking a Business Development Manager who will contribute to the company’s global terminal expansion strategy. As a key member of the Business Development team, the role focuses on conducting comprehensive market and financial analysis to support potential terminal portfolio expansion projects, ensuring alignment with HGT’s growth ambitions and operational objectives.

This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the long-term development of HGT’s global terminal footprint. The position is based at HGT’s headquarters in Rotterdam and reports directly to the Director of Concessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and take ownership of high-quality market and financial analyses related to the renewal of existing container terminal concessions and new terminal portfolio expansion projects.
  • Support the preparation of business cases for terminal investments, expansions, or partnerships, including financial modelling and risk assessment.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, strategic gaps, and growth opportunities for the company.
  • Prepare clear and compelling internal and external project presentation materials.
  • Provide guidance and support to (possible/future) junior team members.
  • Support the Business Development team during field visits and site trips.
  • Act as a liaison between regional teams and corporate departments (Legal, Finance, Strategy, Public Affairs), as well as Port Authorities and clients, to ensure alignment on project-related matters.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive global concessions database, tracking expiring, upcoming, proposed, and potential opportunities. 

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Approximately 5 years of experience in investment banking, infrastructure development projects, public-private partnerships, or similar roles within the port, energy, or transportation sectors. Experience in the container and/or logistics sector is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex strategic challenges into high-quality analyses (e.g., financial models, market assessments, and internal/external presentations).
  • Strong command of MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Thinkcell and others are considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in Spanish, French, or Dutch is considered an additional asset.
  • High level of initiative and autonomy, combined with a proactive mindset and strong execution discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to thrive in a multicultural environment.
