Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) is the new Terminal & Infrastructure Division of Hapag-Lloyd, founded in 2023. HGT delivers streamlined terminal operations for all shipping line customers and brings together a portfolio of 21 port terminals and complementary logistics services in 11 countries and on five continents: Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa. We will be pursuing growth and set ourselves the target of operating ~30 terminals by 2030.

The position
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Marketing & Communications Trainee to join our Marketing & Communications team, for a duration of 6 months. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, high-paced environment where creativity, initiative, and strategic thinking are highly valued.
Working closely with the Communication & Marketing Manager, you will support the activation, development, and ongoing management of key departmental areas. You will also have the opportunity to lead projects end-to-end, contributing directly to the strategic direction of the organization and its communications and marketing objectives.
This traineeship is ideal for a self-starter who is eager to grow, experiment, and make a tangible impact. Expect a varied workload, creative autonomy, and the chance to develop foundational expertise across multiple communications disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
You will support the development and activation of several priority projects within the Marketing & Communications department, including but not limited to:
Digital Communications:
- Support to establish a concrete strategic approach to digital communications and HGT’s presence in this space.
- Contribute to digital campaigns and content planning.
- Support email communications and digital storytelling initiatives.
Social Media:
- Help develop social media content strategy + activation.
- Work together with the agencies to align editorial calendar and initiatives.
- Assist in content creation, planning, and publishing.
- Monitor engagement and suggest optimization opportunities.
Internal Communications:
- Assist to establish global intranet/portal and user-friendly and interactive user interface to promote and stimulate employee engagement.
- Support the creation of internal newsletters, announcements, and staff updates.
- Help maintain consistent messaging and improve employee engagement.
Website:
- Support the development of the corporate website ensuring alignment with our global business.
- Assist with website updates, content management, and copywriting.
- Support the development of user-friendly and on-brand digital experiences.
Brand Management & Merchandise:
- Support brand awareness initiatives that help build the brand from the ground up.
- Ensure brand consistency across materials and channels.
- Assist in merchandise coordination, vendor communication, and brand asset management.
Events and conferences:
- Support building global brand awareness at strategic industry events and conferences.
- Support brand presence, marketing materials, and merchandise coordination.
- Manage the coordination of events and logistics with the event agencies.
You will focus on one or more of these projects based on departmental priorities, your strengths, and your development goals - always in close collaboration with the Communication & Marketing Manager.

Education & Background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Prior internship or project experience in communications or marketing is a plus, but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch or other languages are considered an asset).
- Affinity with digital channels and content creation.
