The Role
Software Asset Management (SAM) function is crucial role to ensures every software asset is compliant, cost-efficient, properly procured, centrally governed, and strategically aligned with business needs, without compromising on quality or industry standards.
SAM Analyst will play key role in managing and optimizing Hapag-Lloyd’s software and SaaS assets throughout their lifecycle. The role ensures compliance with licensing agreements, cost efficiency, and data accuracy while supporting procurement, audit, and renewal processes.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive SAM Framework for all software and SaaS applications across the organization.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date software & contract inventory, ensuring data quality within SAM tools and CMDB systems.
- Track and manage software entitlements, usage, renewals, and compliance to prevent overspend and license violations.
- Work with 3rd party SAM tools like Flexera, Nexthink to analyze software usage and prepare license position reports.
- Support audits and compliance initiatives with accurate software inventory, license documentation
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports that provide transparency into software utilization, compliance, and portfolio health.
- Help evaluate and onboard new software solutions, ensuring compliance with IT and SAM governance standards.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Vendor Management teams during renewals, true-ups, negotiations, and sourcing decisions by providing data-driven insights.
- Identify opportunities for license optimization, including reharvesting, right-sizing, subscription cleanup, and software rationalization to reduce cost.
- Monitor unauthorized, unlicensed, or end-of-life software to reduce compliance risks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending process enhancements and enabling automation to streamline SAM operations.
- Track SaaS usage, inactive accounts, over-licensed subscriptions, and cloud marketplace purchases, ensuring proper license utilization and BYOL governance.

Work Experience
- Strong knowledge of enterprise software licensing (Microsoft, AWS, IBM, SAP & major SaaS providers.
- Proficiency with SAM tools such as Flexera, Snow, ServiceNow SAM Pro, Nexthink, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical and data reconciliation skills using Excel, QlikSense, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with software compliance, audit preparation, and ELP generation.
- Understanding of IT asset lifecycle management and discovery tools (SCCM, Intune, Tanium, etc.).
- Strong communication skills for working with Procurement, Finance, Security, and external vendors.
- Ability to interpret contracts, entitlements, and licensing terms.
Educational Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline
- English language – expert proficiency
- CSAM (IAITAM) – Foundation in SAM lifecycle and compliance.
- ITIL 4 Specialist: ITAM – For process alignment and governance.
- Microsoft / AWS Licensing Specialist
