FinOps & Data Analyst

The Role

FinOps & Data Analyst will be responsible for reporting financial metadata of Cloud (AWS, Azure, SaaS) and On-prem (Mainframe, Midrange) environments to create run cost visibility across Hapag-Lloyd AG. This role combines FinOps FOCUS practices (forecasting, budgeting, unit economics) with strong data engineering and analytical skills (ETL, dashboards, Python automation) to deliver actionable insights and financial governance. This collected metadata will be used by leadership for forecasting, optimizing spend, support cost reporting and decision making.

Lot of data is scattered in multiple places currently, analyst will need to collect, clean and furnish data with FinOps insights.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

 

FinOps FOCUS

  •        Monitor, analyze & report cost trends across AWS/Azure/On-prem environments
  •        Must understand & optimize usage and cost for Cloud Providers, SaaS Providers, Datacenters and internal cost.
  •        Quantify business value and collect metadata for KPI calculation.
  •        Understand TCO calculations, cost anomalies, unused resources, right-sizing opportunities, KPIs tracking and FinOps FOCUS processes.
  •        Track and analyze key cost drivers (compute, storage, network, SaaS).
  •        Support monthly cost forecasting using driver-based or regression models.
  •        Develop and maintain unit economics, cost allocation models, tagging frameworks, and showback/chargeback.
  •       Track KPIs such as cost-per-service, forecast accuracy, RI/SP utilization, savings realized, and cost per customer.
  •        Must have knowledge to pull raw data via Python / Terraform scripting from CSPs

 Data

  •        Collect, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends and patterns.
  •        Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business teams to understand data requirements.
  •        Build and maintain ETL pipelines to ingest billing data (CUR, Azure Cost Exports, SaaS usage reports)
  •        Ensure cost, usage, and operational data is processed accurately & efficiently.
  • Build automation using Python or SQL to collect data for dashboard creation in QlikSense or any of FinOps tools.

 Preferred Certifications

  • Must have in-depth knowledge in FinOps FOCUS & good to be FinOps FOCUS certified
  • Must have in-depth knowledge in any of scripting language and good to have relevant certification

Work Experience

  •        Mandatory 3-4 years of relevant experience in Data Engineering / FinOps FOCUS with overall experience not exceeding 5-6+ years
  •        Strong understanding of FinOps and Data tools (e.g., Flexera, CloudZero, Nexthink, Python)
  •        Good to understand software licensing models (Microsoft, AWS, SaaS, etc.)
  •       Good communication and stakeholder management skills

Education & Qualifications

  •        Bachelor’s degree in computer science / information technology, or a related field
  •       English language – expert proficiency (additional languages are beneficial)
