Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) is the new Terminal & Infrastructure Division of Hapag-Lloyd, founded in 2023. HGT delivers streamlined terminal operations for all shipping line customers and brings together a portfolio of 22 port terminals and complementary logistics services in 12 countries and on four continents: Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. We will be pursuing growth and set ourselves the target of operating 30 terminals by 2030.

The position
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Inland Services to join our team. This strategic role is responsible for overseeing inland operations—including depots, repair depots, and other inland activities—across multiple regions. The position reports directly to the COO of Hanseatic Global Terminals.
Key Responsibilities

To ensure Safe, Efficient and Reliable Operations
- Strategically align inland operations with Hapag-Lloyd’s global objectives, ensuring seamless integration and high performance across all regions.
- Champion a culture of safety and compliance, driving HSSE initiatives across HGT’s inland portfolio.
- Lead performance management efforts, fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence through data-driven insights and best practice sharing.
- Serve as a senior advisor on technical and operational matters, providing expert guidance to inland entities.
- Spearhead the implementation of operational improvement frameworks, including LEAN methodologies where applicable.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with OEMs and equipment manufacturers to enhance procurement leverage and operational efficiency.

To deliver value from HGT’s Inland Operations
- Provide executive oversight of depot, intermodal, repair, and inland logistics operations, ensuring optimal value creation for HGT and its stakeholders.
- Shape and execute the inland growth strategy in alignment with HGT’s long-term vision and commercial objectives.
- Collaborate closely with Hapag-Lloyd leadership at local, regional, and global levels to identify and evaluate growth opportunities, ensuring robust business cases and sustainable value generation.
- Represent HGT’s interests as full or part owner of an entity in daily operations. Formal shareholder or supervisory board representation may be included as well, or coordination as needed with relevant HGT board member holding such role.
- Provide strategic oversight for key inland assets including: Hanseatic Global Terminals Depot Rotterdam (Rotterdam), CMR (Hamburg), MECRC (Dubai), Texas Stevedoring Services (Houston).

Oversight Responsibilities
- Delivering financial performance in line with budget.
- Managing capital expenditures within governance frameworks.
- Ensuring service excellence and capacity for Hapag-Lloyd as a key customer.
- Assessing and developing leadership and organizational capabilities.
- Managing labor relations and union engagements effectively to avoid business disruptions.

Strategic Collaboration with Partner Entities
- Engage when and where value-adding to support the inland, depot and logistics operations of JM Baxi (CFSs, ICDs and rail), SAAM (SAAM Logistics) and Spinelli (depot, trucking) in close collaboration with the hosting entities and the organizational hierarchy. Shared accountability for outcomes of responsibilities mentioned above.
Job requirements
- At least 10+ years of experience in inland operations, depot management, or supply chain/logistics roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
- Proven track record of managing inland depots, repair depots, and regional operational activities across multiple geographies.
- Strong understanding of supply chain, logistics, transportation, and inland operations processes.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize operational efficiency, cost management, and service delivery.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to build, lead, and motivate diverse teams across different regions.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills on different levels, with experience in collaborating with internal and external partners.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to leverage analytics for decision-making and performance improvement.
- Solid financial acumen and experience managing budgets, forecasts, and cost control measures.
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements in inland operations.
- Willingness to travel frequently across regions as needed.
- Language proficiency in Dutch and English (written and spoken) is required. Spanish is preferred.
