As such, the business is building competitive advantage through technology and digitising interaction with customers and its core operational processes. Against this backdrop, the Global One IT has a mandate from the executive board to lead the technology transformation of Hapag-Lloyd.

This role is based in Chennai which has just recently been established as one of 3 global IT hubs for Hapag-Lloyd and will be the global IT development hub.

 

THE ROLE

Our international team takes care of the architecture, design and implementation of central and business critical platforms for API handling, system integration and automation of rule-based business decisions. Advising our specialist departments and IT product teams is an essential part in that context. We advise and support the implementation of new use cases and the optimization of existing solutions. In addition, we work together with service providers for operation and support to guarantee the highest grade of reliability

At Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s leading container shipping companies, we’re on a mission to modernize and transform how we deliver digital and business value. Our Agile journey began three years ago—but to truly scale, we need coaches who understand both Agile delivery and Lean transformation at a systemic level.

We’re looking for an experienced Lean Agile Coach to join our global Lean-Agile Centre of Excellence (LACE) and help us scale smart, value-driven, sustainable ways of working across IT and business teams.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Coach cross-functional teams and leadership on Lean-Agile principles, values, and mindset
  • Embed Lean thinking and continuous improvement culture using tools like Kaizen, A3, Root Cause Analysis, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Enable high-performing, autonomous, self-organized teams focused on flow, customer value, and learning
  • Support product teams and cluster leads with backlog prioritization, value stream alignment, and delivery flow
  • Use Lean metrics (e.g., Flow Efficiency, Lead Time, Cycle Time, Throughput) to enable transparency and drive improvements
  • Guide leaders in creating psychological safety, long-term learning, and strategic focus
  • Contribute to the evolution of our Agile@Scale playbook and internal coaching communities

WORK EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Agile Coach, including coaching both teams and senior leaders
  • Extensive background in Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence (Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.)
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills across all organizational levels
  • Deep knowledge of Lean transformation methods and system-level optimization
  • Experience working with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or similar) in scaled environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English
  • Technical or IT background is a plus

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • English language – expert proficiency (additional languages are beneficial)
