ABOUT SOFTWARE ENGINEERING METHODS TEAM
Our role as a Software Engineering Methods and Training team is to select, put into context, align, integrate and describe appropriate practices. We have chosen to use the OMG Essence standard, originally developed by Ivar Jacobson. This provides a meta model for describing an SDLC and a framework with high-level artefacts and structures that can be used as a starting point. On this basis we describe software engineering practices in a very concentrated (and well usable) way. This includes the presentation of activities and artefacts in the form of game cards, which can be used by teams in defined "serious games" to develop methodically. Checklists, which encourage discussion in the teams, are also a key component. This is innovative, as we are among the first to describe an SDLC so comprehensively based on Essence, thus transforming it into a flexible toolbox of modular practices.
