Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) is the new Terminal & Infrastructure Division of Hapag-Lloyd, founded in 2023. HGT delivers streamlined terminal operations for all shipping line customers and brings together a portfolio of 21 port terminals and complementary logistics services in 12 countries and on four continents: Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. We will be pursuing growth and set ourselves the target of operating 30 terminals by 2030.

Position
The Director of Concessions will coordinate and steer the company’s global concession strategy, with a mandate to secure, renew, and manage terminal concessions in alignment with our growth and operational goals. This is a senior leadership role that plays a pivotal part in shaping the long-term development of our global terminal footprint.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Current concessions:
- Ensure alignment of concession frameworks with operational, financial, and sustainability goals.
- Lead internal reporting on concession status and key milestones to executive management.
- Coordinate and steer HGT’s for global concession renewal strategy across all geographies.
New concessions:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive global concessions database, tracking expiring, upcoming, proposed, and potential opportunities.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of concession opportunities to support our terminal growth strategy.
- Oversee and improve the process of executing concession projects, from opportunity identification through final negotiation and signature.
- Shape and lead engagement strategies with governments and public stakeholders to position HGT as a partner of choice.
- Act as the central liaison between regional teams and corporate departments (Legal, Finance, Strategy, Public Affairs) to ensure alignment in all concession-related matters.
- Support regional and local Managing Directors and project teams in building strong, tailored value propositions to win and retain concessions.
- Identify and steer strategic analyses and internal briefings to support key negotiations and stakeholder engagements.
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure concessions, public-private partnerships, or similar roles in port, energy, or transportation sectors.
- Deep knowledge of concession lifecycle management—from origination and stakeholder mapping to negotiation and execution.
- Strong background in project management, government engagement, and contract negotiation.
- Familiarity with regulatory environments and political dynamics in emerging and developed markets.
- Experience working with senior government officials and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across legal, commercial, finance, and public affairs teams.
- Advanced analytical skills and the ability to translate complex strategic challenges into actionable plans.
- Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in Spanish, French, or Dutch is a plus.
- High level of initiative and autonomy, with a proactive mindset and strong execution discipline.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and multicultural orientation.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Economics, Political Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
