Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) is the new Terminal & Infrastructure Division of Hapag-Lloyd, founded in 2023. HGT delivers streamlined terminal operations for all shipping line customers and brings together a portfolio of 21 port terminals and complementary logistics services in 12 countries and on four continents: Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. We will be pursuing growth and set ourselves the target of operating 30 terminals by 2030.

Position
The HGT Business Development & Investment Manager will actively contribute to the company’s high growth ambitions and play an important role in further expanding the terminal portfolio in the coming years, to reach our goal of 30 terminals by 2030.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities of terminals that could help growing the portfolio;
- Assist with the Business Development funnel process, ensuring systematic generation of new ideas and managing the opportunities already in the pipeline in order to convert them into real projects;
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, strategic gaps, and growth opportunities for the company;
- Prepare initial business cases for terminal investments, expansions, or partnerships, including financial modelling and risk assessment;
- Support the creation of presentations and decision papers for senior management and steering committee approval;
- Collaborate with Hapag-Lloyd group departments (e.g., M&A, Strategy Office, Network, Legal, Tax) to gather data and input for business development initiatives;
- Coordinate external stakeholder interactions, including private investors, consultants, deal makers, and portfolio companies, as part of the opportunity screening process;
- Actively contribute to the organization of BD team meetings, workshops, and interactions with key stakeholders;
Candidate Profile
- Proven work experience in business development, strategy or related field, ideally within consultancy or investment banking (3 to 5 years);
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data into actionable insights;
- Strong proficiency in financial modelling, including experience with building financial projections, valuations, and supporting M&A or strategic analysis;
- Comfortable working with complex models and interpreting financial data to support decision-making;
- Excellent collaboration skills to engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders;
- Prior experience in market analysis, financial modelling, and preparation of decision papers is required;
- International mindset with a willingness to work across different regions and cultures;
- Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; other languages (e.g., Spanish, German) are an advantage;
- Strong command of MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint;
- Experience with database tools, financial systems, or market screening tools is beneficial;
- Proactive attitude, ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and strong organizational skills;
- Previous exposure to port terminal operations, logistics or shipping is an advantage;
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field;
- Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
