Main Objectives

  • The Cargo Control Manager is responsible for optimizing vessel utilization across assigned region, ensuring efficient allocation and capacity management across trades. This role involves managing voyage and customer allocations, monitoring booking developments, and implementing corrective measures to align with trade strategies.
  • Key responsibilities include overseeing cargo prioritization, special cargo approvals, and operational coordination with ship planners, terminals, and commercial teams. The role requires close collaboration with Trade Management, Pricing, and Commercial teams to maximize capacity utilization while minimizing operational costs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and manage performance of members in the assigned subteam to meet agreed KPI, and ensure compliance to global processes and guidelines
  • Drive success through deep dive into areas of concerns in subteam and devise plans/strategies for solutioning 
  • Allocation and Capacity Management on designated SSYs within subteam (What: Vessel uptake decision, Why: To ensure full ship utilization and SSY profitability): Creation of Voyage Allocations and Customer Allocations as per alignment with TM Pricing & Steering
  • Align with CS/ED on empty repositioning requirement
  • Liase and challenge ship planners (own or partner line) on space related topics and operational restrictions (e.g. draft, ballast & bunker, stack weight, etc)
  • Collaborate with QSCs for CSB related topics (vessel balancing) as well as PTO topics (e.g. terminal build up, load lists)
  • Close cooperation with TM Pricing & Steering regarding booking development and respective market situation
  • Exchange with Area Commercial Steering on market developments in Area Performance call
  • Responsible to forward special cargo applications received from CSB (e.g. OOG) to ship planners (internal/ external) to obtain tentative loading approval details
  • Responsible for shipment acceptance handling incl waitlist handling
  • Prioritisation of cargoes in case of an overbooking situation based on commercial rules, operational and cost aspects
  • Cooperation on ad hoc schedule adjustments / optimizations in collaboration with Voyage Control/Fleet Support Center and Regions
  • Participate in projects and assignment delegated by Senior Manager & Director, TM Cargo Control 
  • Direct and guide team members in daily tasks management
  • Identify training needs in team members and submit request to Senior Manager, TM Cargo Control AS
  • Debrief Senior Manager, TM Cargo Control on overall subteam performance
  • Arrange back-up or replacement when team members are on leave
  • Conduct yearly performance appraisal with team members in subteam
  • Acceptance of flexible working times also on holidays/weekends

Requirements

  • Degree in Shipping, Transportation or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in liner shipping/ transportation industry
  • Operational background and Trade Management or Commercial Steering experience welcome
  • Comprehensive knowledge about HL applications (FIS, Qlik.)
  • Proficient in MS-Office products (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Analytical, systematic and efficient way of working
  • Motivated, proactive and reliable
  • Willing to take ownership of tasks and responsibility
  • Teamplayer with strong communication skills
  • Excellent negotiations skills and assertiveness
  • Acceptance of flexible working times also on holidays/weekends
  • Experience in dealing with different stakeholder groups
