THE IT ORGANISATION

A globally focused shipping and terminal organisation, Hapag-Lloyd is continuing to drive an ambitious and complex change and transformational program to modernize the applications enabling the digital journey of its customers.  Hapag-Lloyd’s strategy depends on a successful digital transformation.

As such, the business is building competitive advantage through technology and digitising interaction with customers and its core operational processes. Against this backdrop, the Global One IT has a              mandate from the executive board to lead the technology transformation of Hapag-Lloyd.

This role is based in Chennai which has just recently been established as one of 3 global IT hubs for Hapag-Lloyd and will be the global IT development hub. The GPL is required to play a crucial role in helping Hapag-Lloyd to achieve its goals by successfully innovating and creating world class solutions while optimizing the costs as efficiently as possible.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our team in Hamburg takes care of the architecture, design and implementation of our Business Rules Platform which is the basis of rule-based automation of business decisions. Supporting our specialist departments and IT product teams with advice and assistance in the design and implementation of new business rules including integration into their backend, is an essential part of our business. In addition, we work with service providers for operations and software manufacturers to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability of our solution.

We see your role as IT system engineer working from Chennai supporting Hamburg team as a flexible all-rounder and dynamic team player who enjoys and is keen in further developing our platform in a hybrid infrastructure environment. We offer a variety of tasks in expanding and improving our solution, from design to implementation and management of operations of our product. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Continuous improvement and development of our “Business Rules Platform” product in terms of functional and non-functional capabilities in collaboration with stakeholders from business and IT
  • Development and implementation of interfaces for integration into the existing and future Hapag-Lloyd application landscape including development, deployment and operation processes
  • Advice and support of our IT product teams and specialist departments in design, implementation and integration of decision services
  • Coordination of operations providers, software vendors as well as product experts
  • Conception and implementation of solutions for monitoring and determining KPIs
  • Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of appropriate tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for configuration & asset management to ensure information is complete, current and accurate. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Requires 5+ years of experience in technology with expertise in trending technologies.
  • At least 3 years of experience in design and development of software, experience with large multinational organisations is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience witch IBM Solution Operational Decision Manager (ODM) as part of CP4BA (CloudPak for Business Automation) with focus on design, implementation and rollout of decision services
  • Experience in software development and the tools used, such as version management, CI/CD, planning and collaboration tools (e.g. Git, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, ...)
  • Experience in domain specific and other programming languages, development environments and different operating environments is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of cloud technologies and development of container-based applications (e.g. Open Shift, Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage as well as experience in the area of "Infrastructure as Code" (e.g. Terraform)
  • As an international company, we require good written and spoken English skills
  • However, we see your flexibility, dynamism and ability to work in a team as particularly important because that is what makes us special
  • Experience in a documentation system (e.g. Confluence / Sharepoint / Teamsite etc.) is an added advantage.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • English language – expert proficiency (additional languages are beneficial)
