Responsibilities

To drive and contribute to the Equipment Management strategy for Region Asia, collaborating with key stakeholders to optimize operations while balancing cost efficiency and commercial priorities

Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director with strategic direction and contribute to the business-wide strategy for equipment management.
  • Drive and execute the Equipment Management strategy across all container size types in Region Asia.
  • Provide guidance to area teams on container steering and inventory developments.
  • Optimizing empty repositioning strategies while navigating cargo flows and capacity constraints and balancing cost efficiency.
  • Align with Niche Products teams to validate and support the commercial strategy for Reefer and Special businesses.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics (KPIs) to support strategic planning and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing equipment management and operations.
  • Support global project implementation, establish best practices, and enhance processes.

Operational & Analytical Responsibilities

  • Actively steer the empty containers in Region Asia, identifying current and future demand and implementing steering measures in coordination with area teams.
  • Collaborate with Trade Management, Marine Operations, and other stakeholders to ensure the cost-efficient use of open vessel space for empty repositioning activities.
  • Conduct in-depth logistical data analysis using various analytical tools to anticipate seasonal effects and the impact of political developments.
  • Plan and coordinate dedicated empty loader ships for evacuations or supply in cooperation with Global Container Logistics, Area EQ teams, and Marine Operations.
  • Partner with procurement toward efforts to secure storage, feeder space, and trucking resources in line with inventory needs.
  • Guide stowage planning and vessel utilization considering equipment needs, identifying opportunities for vessel interchanges and reducing idle time.
  • Prepare management presentations to highlight trends, performance insights, and strategic recommendations.

Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Coordinating and aligning with internal teams (Cargo Control, Commercial, Trade Management, Container Steering, Network Execution, and Area Equipment teams) to reach consensus on operational challenges.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with other Regional Equipment teams and Headquarter to ensure proper equipment supply and accurate positioning.
  • Negotiate leasing agreements with sublease customers and carriers for container interchanges.
  • Liaise with leasing companies to manage off-hire constraints and capacity limitations.
  • Engage with terminals, depots, and logistics providers (trucking, rail, port authorities) to minimize cost impacts and improve operational efficiencies.

Requirements

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Shipping, Transportation, or a related field
  • At least five years of experience in the liner shipping or transportation industry in an Area or Regional scope.
  • A strong operational/logistics background but with an understanding of cost levers (e.g. stevedoring, storage, leasing costs).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills – familiarity with Qlikview and Qliksense is a plus.
