Reports to Senior Director Trade Management

Overall Job Purpose:

  • To ensure ships are optimally utilized to maximize freight contribution (CL2), while balancing the attainment of volume objectives with revenue maximization
  • To work with Areas & Regions on expanding the footprint. The ultimate goal is to assure the best possible bottom line results and a competitive product in the market place
  • To consciously establish a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development, efficiency, and collaboration, while creating an environment for process improvement
  • Ensure shuttles and IRT network support the long haul connectivity
  • Facilitate Trade Management Middle East topics in the region

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the implementation of strategy, monitoring the achievement of relevant targets and measures
  • Manage Trade activities across the region, supporting the achievement of set targets
  • Ensure work is conducted within the context of established Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures
  • Establish KPI’s, in coordination with the Senior Director, to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of the department as a whole and of individual members
  • Ensure that managers and staff maintain departmental standards, striving for consistent improvement, and adherence to set key performance indicators
  • Work with Areas/Regional Sales to develop annual/quarterly volume/revenue/contribution budgets for their SSY’s
  • Monitor variances and initiate steps/dialogue with Areas/Regional Sales to achieve budgeted goals taking into account changing market conditions
  • Review vessel schedules in consultation with Ship Operations and take appropriate steps - short term/medium term/long term to maintain schedule integrity, while optimizing costs
  • Align and coordinate shuttle and IRT space demands for all Trades in middle east
  • Establish procedures to achieve optimum utilization of available space and monitor successful implementation of these procedures
  • Establish overall pricing policies and guidelines and continuous review of policies and procedures as per market conditions, to achieve the corporate objectives
  • Arrange to collect/distribute all pertinent trade related market information both from internal and external sources
  • Monitor market trends and analyze activities of competition as necessary
  • Be the voice / facilitator for Trade Management Middle East topics in the region
  • Liaise with Corporate Logistics to monitor overall trends and imbalances in their trade and work with other departments and areas to reduce costs and imbalances by identifying opportunities in the market - consistent with the Imbalance Management objectives
  • Work closely with Corporate Controlling and Corporate Operations to review financial results of the trade lane and take/recommend appropriate action to improve utilization/revenue and reduce costs wherever possible
  • Participate in various Hapag-Lloyd working groups, business processes, and any areas as requested by senior management
  • Maintain communication with local managers, providing and disseminating updated information regarding Hapag- Lloyd policies and procedures
  • Work closely with other Area Directors on process improvement and communication flow
  • Coach and develop individual department managers and staff. Have regular performance reviews in line with company policy and management requirements
  • Ascertain that workload is balanced across the various disciplines within each department

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business Administration
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a commercial or trade related role
  • Knowledge of Middle East market preferred
  • Good understanding of operational processes / requirements
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry
  • Fluent in English

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of yield and capacity management processes and systems
  • Strong knowledge of analytical tools
