ABOUT OUR FLEET IT TEAM

The Fleet IT team is responsible for ensuring reliable and efficient IT operations for nearly 70 HL-managed vessels. Their expertise encompasses IT platforms, applications, networks, and operational technology (OT) systems essential for maritime operations. The team supports vessels by handling all IT-related aspects, including system optimization, compliance, and cybersecurity. Collaboration across global locations enables seamless support and cross-team synergy. With a focus on continuous improvement, they contribute to the digital transformation of the Fleet. The team is committed to delivering high-quality IT solutions tailored to maritime needs.

THE ROLE – SENIOR MARITIME IT SPECIALIST

The Maritime IT Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of IT systems onboard our container vessels. As a Level 3 support professional, you will manage advanced IT infrastructure and hardware, provide expertise on specialized maritime IT solutions, and drive projects that optimize onboard and onshore IT operations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • IT Infrastructure Management:
    • Manage, configure, and troubleshoot IT hardware and infrastructure onboard vessels, including:
      • Microsoft Server 2019 and related services.
      • Server hardware
      • Virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V).
      • Network systems and devices, with expertise in switching, routing, NATing, VLANs, and firewall configurations.
      • Backup and restore solutions, ensuring data integrity and availability.
      • Active Directory, CMDB, and application management systems.
      • Workstations, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Backup and Restore Management:
    • Ensure robust and reliable backup solutions for onboard IT systems, including periodic testing and restoration procedures.
    • Define best practices for data recovery processes and ensure readiness for disaster recovery scenarios.
  • Process Optimization and Security Compliance:
    • Manage system patching processes for servers and endpoints to ensure all systems are updated and secure.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and external regulations governing commercial vessel IT systems.
    • Shape and monitor operational processes to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient IT operations for vessels.
    • Continuously assess the security, usability, and effectiveness of IT services, implementing measures to address gaps or inefficiencies.
  • Product Ownership:
    • Act as the IT product specialist for assigned hardware and software products, ensuring full lifecycle management.
    • Take responsibility for maintaining and improving product performance, availability, and security.
  • L3 Support and Collaboration:
    • Provide Level 3 support for IT products under your responsibility.
    • Collaborate closely with application management teams and L1/L2 support teams in Gdansk, Hamburg, and Chennai to resolve escalated issues.
  • Onsite Maintenance and Support:
    • Travel to vessels when required to provide IT maintenance, perform system upgrades, and resolve critical issues onsite.
    • Ensure minimal disruption to vessel operations during maintenance activities.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience 9 to 12 Years:
    • Proven work experience in IT, preferably within the maritime industry (optional but advantageous).
    • Expertise in managing Windows platforms and services, including Active Directory, software distribution, and patch management.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep understanding of computer hardware, networks, and peripherals.
    • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, including VLANs, NATing, routing, switching, and firewall management.
    • Proficiency in Windows Server environments and virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V.
  • Educational Background:
    • University degree in Information Technology or a comparable qualification.
  • Certifications:
    • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Server Related, Cisco CCNA, or similar will be a plus.
  • Competencies:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
    • Proactive mindset with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in fast-paced environments.
    • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English.
    • Team player attitude, fostering collaboration between internal IT teams, external stakeholders, and business units.
