Reports to Managing Director Sub-Region Africa

Overall Job Purpose:

Directing Sub-Regional Africa Sales efforts to maximize both volume and contribution levels and providing pricing policy and guidelines to assist in achieving the goals of the company. Consciously establishes a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development, efficiency, collaboration, and creates an environment for process improvements. Upholds and ensures that all Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures are followed and maintained.

Key Accountabilities:

  • ·        Responsible for coordinating all sales matters related to Sub region Africa.
  • ·        Pursues goals set by Management, such as optimizing the volume and contribution generated by the Area consistent with the objectives of maximizing contribution.
  • ·        Guides and instructs Area Sales forces.
  • ·        Actively coordinate Budget, FC’s and WVF (Weekly Volume Forecast) processed related to volume input in coordination with Areas and TM’s
  • ·        Monitor and maximize utilization and contribution of liner services sailing from the region
  • ·        Monitors customer performance and takes action to improve business where needed.
  • ·        Analyzes competitive information and statistical data. Provides necessary assistance to Area offices in order to pursue the most attractive business available.
  • ·        Provides resolution of high level concerns.
  • ·        Establishes and follows up on focus and target accounts. Liaise whenever required with the sales managements of other areas.
  • ·        Safeguards effective equipment marketing by steering containers to equipment demand areas and depleting surplus areas.
  • ·        Ascertain areas are developing competitive rate and service contract offers to clients in consultation with Trade Management within the guidelines of the company.
  • ·        Monitors Area bookings versus allocation and budget and takes action in case of potential deviations.
  • ·        Executes special projects as assigned by Regional Sales & Customer Services Management.
  • ·        Participates in various Hapag-Lloyd working groups, business processes, and any areas as requested by Senior management.
  • ·        Maintains communication with local managers, providing, and disseminating updated information regarding Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures.
  • ·        Ensure cadence of meetings followed in order to disseminate a sustainable and constructive approach of topics.
  • ·        Works closely with other area Directors on process improvement and communication flow.
  • ·        Coaches and develops individual department managers and staff. Has regular performance reviews in line with company’s policy and management requirements.
  • ·        Ascertains that the workload is balanced amongst the various disciplines and employees within the team.
  • ·        Support Areas to achieve targets.
  • ·        Act as Regional PoE for the department
  • ·        Drives changes in the department that enable the fulfillment of Hapag-Lloyd’s quality promises and delivery of superior value to our customers that in turn translates into high levels of customer satisfaction and high NPS

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Administration, Sales Management, Marketing or related field preferred
  • > 10 years work experience in International Shipping Companies or other Multinationals

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced English. Other languages desirable. Industry knowledge (shipping).
  • Excellent negotiation skills coupled with outstanding communication skills.
  • Proven leadership experience having successfully managed teams.
  • CRM management. Project management.

Competencies:

  • Proven leadership experience having successfully managed large teams, ideally already in a Sub Area or Area.
  • Exceptional ability to inspire and motivate people.
  • Capability to fluently speak, read and write in English - any other additional languages are a plus.
  • High customer and results orientation coupled with outstanding communication skills.
  • Experience in negotiating and delivering results.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
