Overall, Job Purpose
We are looking for a skilled Cargo & Berth Planning Shipping Manager to oversee terminal operations, vessel husbanding, and documentation tasks for our shipping activities. The successful candidate will represent our organization in various shipping associations and government bodies while managing logistics, costs, risk assessments, and operational efficiency. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth cargo operations and compliance with regulations.

Job Specification - Key Accountabilities

Terminal Operations Oversight

  • Manage terminal and ICD operations, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee vessel husbanding tasks performed by internal teams and third-party vendors

Cargo Management

  • Coordinate cargo flow and berth planning, optimizing vessel schedules.
  • Handle OOG acceptance, cost submissions, and maintain standard rates in the HIP excel file.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attend meetings with customs, port authorities, vendors, and trade associations to foster relationships and address operational queries.
  • Act as the primary liaison for any ad hoc coordination with TD, TS, ED, and OPSS activities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and technologies impacting shipping and logistics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve operational issues and enhance service delivery

Cost Management & Reporting

  • Evaluate operational cycles to implement cost reduction measures and monitor expenses.
  • Provide feedback on cost control and prepare performance reports for internal teams

Documentation & Compliance

  • Oversee submission of manifests & documents to relevant authorities and ensure timely clearances.
  •  Handle discrepancies and ensure accurate shipping documentation

Operational Support

  • Offer local support to Equipment Dispatch, Transport Dispatch, Transshipment, and Operation steering teams, ensuring timely movement of containers.
  • Monitor vendor performance and maintain communication with marine operations and central planners

Team Leadership

  • Lead and motivate a team, providing guidance and resolving complex issues.
  • Ensure effective communication across all levels of the organization

Qualifications and Technical Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with Post graduate degree in Logistics, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
  • 10 - 15+ years of management experience in the shipping industry with a strong understanding of port operations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with cargo management software.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to engage with high-level authorities.
  • Strong analytical skills for cost analysis and KPI management.
