About the role:

We are seeking an experienced employee to handle and report to the Director Operations on all aspects of Operations function, while maintaining a high level of service to both internal and external stakeholders, measuring and monitoring vendor and staff performance, and actively managing overall operational costs within budgets, identification and execution of cost saving initiatives.

Demonstrates customer focus, individual development, efficiency, collaboration, and recommends/implements process improvements. Upholds and ensures that all Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures are followed and maintained.

Your Responsibility:

  • Build and maintain strong key stakeholder relationships, both internally (Country, Area, Quality Service Center and Regional Business Units) and externally (Terminals, Port Authorities, Government Authorities, Third Party Agencies and Vendors).
  • Maintain open communications with country managers and area business units, providing, and disseminating updated information regarding Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures.
  • Manage and appropriately escalate risks and high-level concerns.
  • Ensure resources and operational capacity, identify and eliminate bottlenecks, and manage risks in line with achieving both short- and long-term area, regional and global strategy objectives.
  • Deliver top performance within Hapag-Lloyd’s organizational structure and processes, as it pertains to Port Operations, Landside Operations, Equipment Management, Transport Dispatch and Maintenance & Repair functions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of industry performance benchmarking figures and processes against which to appraise vendors and to guide them for improved performance in line with corporate and/or global best practices.
  • Equipment control management of all company owned and leased equipment, including maintenance and repair.
  • Proactively drive costs savings initiatives, process improvements projects and operational priorities.
  • On Director Operations’ request, represent Area Operations within committees, pursuing efficiencies, cost savings through the sharing of resources and services.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all Hapag-Lloyd corporate governance policies, governmental rules and regulations.
  • Participate in various Hapag-Lloyd working groups, business processes and any areas as requested by Director Operations.
  • Assist Director Operations in selection/hiring of staff. Coach and develop individual country-based operations staff. Have regular performance reviews in line with company’s policy and management requirements. Talent identification and business continuity planning.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by Director Operations from time to time.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • University Degree
  • 10-15 years' experience in liner shipping business (Vessel Planning, Ports and Operations Management)
  • Analytical and proficient with MS Office with advanced Excel skills
  • English Advanced level (written and spoken)
  • Advanced negotiation, decision-making and presentation skills
  • Self-confident and friendly when dealing with others
  • Demonstrated strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, resourceful, and responsive
  • Demonstrated ability to be multi-task, set priorities, organize work, and implement action items.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and good interpersonal skills.
