Function and duties

Main Tasks

To manage and oversee the following tasks related to Area Arabian Gulf, ensuring tasks are completed within guidelines.

  • Preparing and Managing Financial Statements to provide a clear and accurate company’s financial performance for all Arabian Gulf countries.
  • Main point of contact for Statutory Audit, both pre and post audit.
  • Reviewing and monitoring of Overhead Cost in coordination with Finance for each of the country.
  • Monthly and Quarterly Financial Statement Review including Variance Analysis for both Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet
  • Ensuring compliance with Tax regulations such as Preparing and Filing of Value Added Tax (VAT) in accurate and timely manner for UAE and Bahrain as well as refunding of Excess VAT
  •   Up to date on changes in taxation and recommend process/system amendments to minimize cost exposure for Hapag-Lloyd (HL)
  • Managing and monitoring lease agreement based on IFRS 16 – Leases Standard
  • Monitoring and analyzing of Commercial Waiver for Arabian Gulf locations.
  • Ensure government compliance on UAE Ministry of Finance specifically relating to Economic Substance Regulation (ESR), Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA)
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify areas for Revenue Optimization and Profit Improvement
  • Collaboration with Internal audit to implement preventive measures across HL departments ensuring policy are in place and preventing recurrence.
  • Assist in developing, managing, and monitoring Annual Budget and Quarterly Forecasting of Financial Reports
  • Assist in the annual Credit Management Review to ensure standard and optimal credit are issued to credit worthy customers.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance, risk management, tax risk assessment, and legal contingencies.
  • Contribute to strategic area management projects and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external business partners, global partner banks, tax and industry experts, to stay up to date with industry trends and innovations.


qualifications and Technical job requirement


Industry Knowledge

  • 5+ years industry experience in Shipping industry
  • Degree as an Accounting or Finance with verifiable experience
  • Strong analytical skills and a high affinity for numbers


       Business Systems/IT

  • Good knowledge of user application systems (SAP, FIS, Qlikview / QlikSense, MS Office, Word, Excel)
  • Extensive MS Office, especially Excel skills
  • Process knowledge & systems support optimization
  • Ability to promptly process data and request under pressure.
  • Understanding of data quality benchmarking and management


Communication/Organization Skills
