About the job

Area West and Central Africa is searching for an Area Controlling & Performance Senior Manager based in Ghana, to be responsible for legal, tax, financial and risk management of third-party agents (3PA) and all MAW countries. The role is also responsible for performance management of third-party agents (3PA) and all MAW countries.

Your Responsibility:

  • Define and set targets to enhance financial controls in collaboration with 3PA and all MAW (West and Central Africa) countries
  • Responsible for achievement of all targets in BA relating to 3PA and all MAW countries
  • Oversee all aspects of performance management across various business units in both MAW countries and 3PA
  • Contribute to strategic area management projects and initiatives
  • Review and approve tax filings in relevant countries
  • Raise alerts about changes in taxation and recommend process/system amendments to minimize cost exposure for Hapag-Lloyd (HL)
  • Liaise with regional departments, 3PA countries, and all MAW countries to ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and taxation requirements
  • Serve as the contact point for corporate audits in 3PA and all MAW countries, both pre and post-audit
  • Ensure the timely update and approval of Agency Agreements and Bank guarantees
  • Maintain Hapag-Lloyd revenue tariff correctly for 3PA and all MAW countries
  • Take responsibility for following up and closing all audit queries
  • Coordinate with corporate audit to confirm the resolution of audit queries
  • Implement and monitor processes to prevent the recurrence of audit findings and introduce preventive measures to reduce or eliminate audit findings
  • Maintain and timely submit quarterly reports on compliance, risk management, tax risk assessment, and legal contingencies
  • Act as a backup for the BA Director in approving 3PA CPR and processes
  • Collaborate with all departments to proactively implement measures to prevent revenue leakage and overcharging on the operational side
  • Collaborate with all departments in 3PA and all MAW countries to ensure compliance with Hapag-Lloyd policies and guidelines
  • Produce and maintain management report packs to address risk-related matters and potential financial losses constructively
  • Travel to 3PA and all MAW countries for audit purposes and face-to-face meetings
  • Escalate area-specific requirements to relevant stakeholders to meet objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) successfully
  • Conduct regular meetings with 3PA management, MAW country management, 3PA RME (possibly Regional Management Executive) team, Controlling RME team, and QSC (possibly Quality, Safety, and Compliance) teams
  • Stay informed about developments in Customer Service (CS), Sales, and Operations to inform management of  the he impact of changes and ensure compliance with company processes
  • Handle ad hoc requests from management
  • Drive innovation to create meaningful reporting and address critical topics

Your Profile:

  • Experience: 7 – 10 years Financial/Controlling Experience 
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics + CIMA or ACCA or CA
  • Auditing experience with one of the big 4 auditing firms (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG or EY) (Advantage)
  • Shipping or Logistics experience (Advantage)
  • MBA (Advantage)
  • Confident in ability to address topics with different stakeholders
