Our core IT-System FIS (Freight Information System) is undergoing a major transformation. This includes redesigning, rearchitecting and redeveloping all relevant software-modules. At the same time the infrastructure foundation will evolve from a mainframe-centric approach to a more distributed and largely cloud-based setup. In this heavily changing, interconnected environment keeping the systems highly available and well performing is a challenge. Putting a constant focus on this essential topic will be your core mission when you join our FIS Platform Engineering team.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- You will gather and maintain an overview over our operational FIS system landscape
- You put a focus on ensuring system stability, availability and performance
- You support with troubleshooting during incidents and root-cause analysis thereafter
- You assist our engineering and application developer teams in creating and monitoring their relevant KPIs to fulfill our SLAs
- You advise our developer teams on their setups and with transition to production
- You translate technical insights into proposals for adapting our architecture
- You support our teams on their way to migrate applications into the cloud
- You engineer automated development procedures
- You automate system tasks
- You develop base features in the general area of FIS
Requirements and Qualifications
What you'll need to succeed
- Profound knowledge and proven experience with complex (currently mainframe-based) architectures and application servers
- Understanding of the links between infrastructure and application development in a DevOps / PlatformOps environment
- Capability to switch between broad overviews and deep dive into technical details where needed
- Result-oriented, analytical way of thinking
- Quick understanding of complex dataflows and architectures
- Confident and assertive interaction with vendors and service providers
- Ability to prioritize with the best customer-focused outcome in mind
- Drive to constantly to learn new things, to understand the business side of our applications and to analyze complex processes, requirements and systems with great passion
- At ease working in an agile, professional environment where requirements change dynamically
- Good communication skills in English (verbally and written) and the desire to work in a diverse and international organization
- On-site work for at least 3 days/week in our new, modern IT office in the heart of Hamburg’s city center
German language expectations: We expect all international candidates to be willing to learn at least the basics of the German language in case they are accepted for the position. This will enable you to participate in social and community life in Germany and at our company premises in the best possible way.
Nice if you have:
- Understanding of and/ or experience in operational aspects of container shipping business
- Knowledge of IBM Websphere Application Servers (traditional and liberty)
- Basic knowledge of Java programming language
- Basic knowledge of Linux shell scripting
