We are currently ramping the IT PPM & IT PMO (IT Project Portfolio Management and IT Project Management Office) organizational unit.  The primary focus is to manage the organization's entire portfolio of IT projects and products, making sure we are aligned with the overall business strategy so we all move forward in the same direction. We work closely with stakeholders across the entire Hapag-Lloyd organization, prioritizing projects based on their strategic importance, available resources, and risk management considerations.

In addition, we have a PMO that represents a project manager pool, from which we temporarily and/or fully support complex and cross-functional IT programs & projects.

We also set the standards for methodical processing of projects, harmonization of tools & processes, and implementation of governance structures. This eventually allows us to simplify collaboration within and across project boundaries and streamline decision-making processes.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • As Part of our IT Portfolio & PMO Team you will work with the following activities:
  • You will steer and coordinate interdisciplinary IT projects in the areas of software/hardware selection, software implementation, infrastructure, and process optimization
  • You will define project scope, goals, and deliverables in close collaboration with project stakeholders
  • You will develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful project delivery
  • You will coordinate internal and external implementation partners as well as business experts and other stakeholders of your projects
  • Together with our team, you will analyze IT Governance processes, record requirements, and develop ideas and concepts for improvements to deliver business value and increase transparency in resource planning
  • Apart from actively steering individual projects you will support in portfolio management activities such as scoping new initiatives & monitor running initiatives
  • You help identify and implement suitable best practices and standards by piloting innovative approaches for IT Product, Project, and Program management
  • Your day-to-day work is characterized by collaborating with service providers, colleagues, and teams all around the world 


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years experience managing projects and / or programs, preferably with a focus on IT or digitalization
  • Strong understanding of project management standards, methodologies, and practices
  • Basic understanding of agile delivery principles and approaches
  • Communication, facilitation, and collaboration are your strength - you feel comfortable coordinating larger stakeholder groups and project teams
  • Self-motivated, independent, and responsible working style as well as good team player skills​
  • Analytical skills and efficient way of working
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • As an internationally active company, we require a good command of written and spoken English

German language expectations: We expect all international candidates to be willing to learn at least the basics of the German language in case they are accepted for the position. This will enable you to participate in social and community life in Germany and at our company premises in the best possible way.

Nice if you have:

  • Understanding of HL IT Products
  • Understanding of container shipping business is an advantage
  • Recognized project management certifications (such as Prince, PMP, PMI, SAFe, Scrum, etc.)
  • Experience in vendor negotiations & vendor management
  • Experience in M&A projects
