Main Objective of this position

Act as bridge function between Area Sales and Operations with the aim to increase profitable Inland volume and optimize Inland product portfolio.

Function and duties

·        Develops the Area Inland strategy and defines Area-level Inland ambition for the next budget year (volumes, profitability, Inland share, etc.) based on the Regional Inland target in alignment with Sales, Operations, and Trade Management

 

·        Aligns the commercial and the operational perspective to improve the Area’s Inland ambition and result

 

·        Develops the Inland pricing strategy with the goal of end-to-end profitability including the evaluation of the Inland Tariff tool as well as Inland related surcharges

·        Maintain Inland Tariff, taking pricing strategy into consideration

 

·        Develops campaigns and initiatives in alignment with stakeholders in order to achieve Area goals and communicates these globally and actively manages hinterland imbalances

 

·        Identifies Inland value propositions and supports Sales with tangible product information

 

·        Identifies customers that contribute less when Inland services are added and forwards those to the relevant commercial teams for action

 

·        Drives the identification and development of relevant Inland products for the Area (incl. premium services) together with Operations and Sales

 

·        Provides priorities and commercial ambitions to Procurement and supports them in defining the SLAs for transport providers

 

·        Collects market and competitive insights (ambitions and product developments of competitors) and compiles market feedback from Area Sales to develop market-based pricing approach and participates in Area Sales meeting.  

·        Tracks progress towards the Inland strategy of the Area and defines actions to ensure strategic measures are implemented

·        Regularly consults with Regional Inland center to share best practice and/or exchange market feedback

 

·        Actively participates in Area Inland budget and FC process

 

 

 

Qualifications and Technical Job Requirements

 Must have:

·        Project management and Product development skills and experience

·        Very good communication skills in English and French

·        Stakeholder management: engagement with internal stakeholders across country and external stakeholders such as vendors, agents, regulators, government officials etc.

·        At least 3-5 years of relevant inland logistics work experience

·        Performance management mindset, able to hold everyone accountable irrespective of hierarchy 

·        Proactive manner and distinctive goal orientation

·        Problem solving skills and issue resolution mindset

·        Methodical, structural approach, and good organizing skills

·        Ability to work in a team

·        Analytical and creative thinking skills

 

Nice to have:

·        Experienced in Inland Product/Business Development, Sales and Operations

·        Preferably completed university degree in Business / Logistics / Economics (or similar field of study)

·        Preferably further languages (esp. West African languages)

·        Preferably from the West Africa Area with "front-line" experience

3. Success Criteria for Position

·        Knows Inland-related processes from a Product/Business Development, Sales and Operations Perspective

·        Good in basic Analytics (Excel / PowerPoint / QlikView / Webfocus)

·        Strong West African inter country network

·        Interested to establish a new Area-level function
