The IT Operations & Network team makes sure that Hapag-Lloyd’s core business is continuously improving by getting smarter, more efficient and better connected. At our headquarters in Hamburg, we are looking to expand the IT Operations & Network team with System Engineers/ Data Scientists.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

This is what you can expect and how you will contribute:

At Hapag-Lloyd, we don’t just use containers to ship goods, but also to deploy our IT solutions: As part of an agile IT product team, you will be working on the development of our central systems for container monitoring, as well as the development in the cloud.

  • You work and collaborate with colleagues and developers around the globe
  • Together with your team, you implement solutions using agile software development methods
  • You analyze complex business processes and develop creative solutions around IoT and Big Data, in collaboration with your business colleagues
  • You develop team architectures and applications for the analysis of global container GPS data
  • You support the development of modern architectures, as well as the entire migration of our IT applications to the cloud
  • As part of the product team, you take over responsibility for the operation of your respective product and make sure it remains fully functional
  • You also integrate 3rd party services into the system landscape and develop cross-system processes and applications

Requirements and Qualifications:

If this sounds good, here’s what you'll need to succeed: 

  • Proven experience with software development in Java EE or comparable (e.g. Spring) gained within the context of larger projects, as well as experience with web technologies (HTLM, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Good knowledge of data science methods and extensive experience working with large data sets
  • Drive to constantly learn new things, to deep-dive into the business side of your application and to analyze complex processes and systems with great passion
  • High personal standards for the quality of your code – clean code, reasonable test coverage and documentation that is easy to understand
  • Ease with working in an agile, professional environment where requirements change dynamically
  • Good communication skills in English (verbally and written) and the desire to work at a diverse and international organization

German language expectations: We expect all international candidates to be willing to learn at least the basics of the German language in case they are accepted for the position. This will enable you to participate in social and community life in Germany and at our company premises in the best possible way.

Nice if you have:

  • Understanding of HL IT Products
  • Understanding of and/ or experience in container shipping business
  • Experience with Eclipse, git, Maven, Jenkins, AWS, Docker, Terraform
  • Proficiency with requirements engineering
